Porcelain Vessels
by
Avital Avital
Israeli artist Avital Avital is nothing if not meticulous, and as her name might suggest, repetition is key to her art. Working in color-stained porcelain, where the clay body itself contains the color, as opposed to being applied to the surface, Avital individually sculpts a full garden’s worth of leaves and flower stamens that she then encrusts her vessels with, often several layers deep. The flowing and dazzling effect are the result of endless hours of delicate repetition required to achieve her extra-natural fantasies. Bounty, celebration, and even adoration are implied by her colorful and richly textured work.
