Blown Glass with Foamglass Inclusions
by BarroLevén, Sweden

Stockholm based glassblowing duo Ulrika Barr and Kristina Levén create massive, minimal forms that telegraph the material properties of glass; their free-blown vessels embrace the material’s molten, flowing quality by preserving asymmetry and uneven surfaces.

Central to their recent body of work is the embedding of "foam glass" within their exceptionally thick-walled forms. Foam glass is an industrial insulating material, with a texture similar to floral foam, that is made from recycled glass. The chunks of foam create a frothy depth and texture that upends our typical expectations of glass.
