Kiln Formed Glass Fabric
by Cathryn Shilling, UK

Cathryn’s series of bowls floating on draped lengths of fabric-like glass are the culmination of years of experimentation of kiln-forming fine glass dowels into larger compositions. Often, the two separate components, bowl and stand, juxtapose colorless glass with elaborate tartan-like colored glass. Cathryn leverages dichroic, silver and gold plated, and varying gauge dowels in order to amplify the shimmering effect of the glass. The illusion of movement and depth in these dynamic forms can only be fully appreciated in-the-round.
