Encased and Engraved Glass
by Sarah Wiberley, UK

The two intrinsic, symbiotic, and self-evident elements of Sarah’s work are precision and pattern. Certainly, technical virtuosity plays a prominent role in the artist’s work; the paper-thin layers of successive colors crisply cut away beg for appreciation and easily receive it. The laser-like focus on geometric patterns in her recent work belies the prosaic inspirations behind them; for example, the colors of the houses on Bermondsey Street where here glassblowing facility is. Elevation of the commonplace through elaboration is an elegantly appropriate vehicle for Sarha’s painstaking and meditative cutting and engraving process.
